Frequently Asked Questions
Okay, I want to join the Chorus, but how do I find out if my voice qualifies?
Just show up on any Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at our rehearsal site, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church 23838 Kittridge Street, West Hills, 91307. Google Map link. Our custom is to let you sit in on three rehearsals and, at the end of the third rehearsal, you’ll be given a simple voice test. We do have a few hiatus nights during the year, so it’s a good idea to phone ahead to our president Bob Olander 818-917-3070, or our immediate Past President Brian Ghiglia 818-758-1900.
How do I get on your mailing list?
Send your mailing address to SFVMC c/o Marvin Kaufman, 15173 Magnolia Blvd. #E, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403. Send your email address to marvk@roadrunner.com
Are women allowed to join the Chorus?
Sorry, but tradition is tradition!
Are there any costs involved with membership in the Chorus?
There are no dues but each member commits to selling 10 tickets to each of our performances. We want the greatest level of participation possible so please speak to a board member about any concerns you have about the financial commitment. Also, our regular uniform for performances is regulation tuxedo. No problem if you already own one.
What is your concert year schedule?
After summer hiatus, our first rehearsal of the season is the first Monday after Labor Day. We break for Holiday hiatus immediately after our last Holiday concert in December. Rehearsals begin again on the first Monday after New Year’s Day. Our Spring concert is usually scheduled for the week-end between Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. Our last formal meeting of the season is our annual banquet, usually scheduled for the Monday after our Spring concert performance, which normally occurs in late May. We are then on summer hiatus until September.
