The San Fernando Valley Male Chorus has been singing in and around the San Fernando Valley for 50 years. A non-profit corporation since 1969, the Chorus was organized in 1957 for the sole purpose of promoting male musical harmony. . With no political or religious affiliations; the Chorus has had bricklayers, barbers, doctors and engineers as members, all with one common bond . . . a love of music and the sound of four-part male harmony. Over the years the chorus has sung for many directors including Bob Mantzke, who took us to Wales to participate in their annual international choral festival, Jack Halloran, music director for the popular Dean Martin television show and Tommy Morgan, world-renowned recording studio musician. Our current Director is Sheldon Cohen, who served as the Johnny Carson Tonight Show’s Assistant Conductor for 30 years until Carson retired in 1992. On multiple occasions, the Chorus has participated in the Christmas Eve musical festival held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and has performed at various venues as part of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission’s annual open house festival. The chorus performs annually in a series of Holiday and Spring concerts.
The chorus frequently volunteers its services to charitable causes, such as performing for the annual Christmas party given by the Shriners for children with disabilities at the L.A. School District’s Handicap School on Balboa Blvd. In addition, the Chorus annually stages two major shows; a Spring show and a Holiday show. The shows presented by the chorus are always a mix of various types of music including classical, religious, folk, spiritual, Broadway and pop. The Chorus invites any man who shares our love of singing to join us. Monday, September 10, 2007, 7:30 pm is our first rehearsal date for season 2007/2008!
