Shelly Cohen

 

Shelly  was born in Brooklyn New York and was educated at Brooklyn College, Hartnett Music School and The Julliard School of Music. Johnny Carson used to call him the "Kosher Mantovani." The Pacific Pops Orchestra founder, director Shelly Cohen served as The Tonight Show's Assistant Musical Director for 30 years until Johnny Carson retired in 1992.

Whether coordinating music for the Emmy Awards, writing and producing Christmas specials for NBC, composing and arranging for The Pacific Pops String Orchestra, or recording Grammy award-nominated CDs, Shelly has had an impressive career and is a fixture in the LA area music scene. 

He is equally at home in the concert hall, the recording studio or on major cruise ships.  He has conducted orchestras for charity concerts, including one with Tipper Gore and Natalie Cole. As a guest conductor he has appeared with Los Angeles, Pasadena and Virginia Pops orchestras and the Brentwood Symphony.

Professional affiliations include American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, American Federation of Musicians, Westlake Village Cultural Foundation.
